Febi Bilstein 17068 - camshaft

The Febi Bilstein 17068 camshaft is a precisely made component that controls the opening and closing of the engine valves. The cam lobes of the shaft, rotating in time with the timing drive, act on the tappets or rocker arms, determining the timing and lift of each valve in every cylinder.

Application

The part fits selected engines used in common PSA group (Citroen/Peugeot) power units, as well as in selected Fiat and Toyota models using the same engine platform. It corresponds to the original catalog numbers Citroen/Peugeot 0801.E8 and 801.E8, Fiat 9603104288 and Toyota SZ001-00083. Because of the shared engine platforms used by these brands, before buying it is worth comparing the OEM number with the old camshaft or with the engine number in the vehicle documentation.

When to replace the camshaft

A camshaft is usually replaced in case of excessive wear of the lobes (flattened profile, pitting) or damaged bearing journals, which shows up as uneven engine running, loss of power and a characteristic knocking from the cylinder head. Camshaft wear is often the result of insufficient lubrication, for example with infrequent oil changes or using oil of the wrong viscosity.
