Adjustable 3-jaw cylinder hone

A manual cylinder hone with three spring-loaded arms ending in abrasive stones. It is held in a drill chuck and inserted into the cylinder – the rotating honing stones remove carbon deposits, rust and oxide layer and give the bore the crosshatch pattern needed to retain an oil film.

Applications

• honing cylinders of small engines: motorcycles, lawn mowers, chainsaws, generators,
• brake and clutch cylinders during rebuilds,
• pneumatic and hydraulic cylinders,
• tapered and slightly oval bores.

How to use

Insert the hone into the cylinder before starting the drill, run it at low speed with a back-and-forth motion along the whole length, lubricating generously with honing oil or kerosene. When finished, the cylinder must be washed thoroughly to remove abrasive particles.

The springs press the stones evenly, and the adjustment lets you fit the tool to different bore diameters.

Specifications

The tool is easy to use and does not require a specialist machine. The stones can be replaced with new ones when worn, which extends the life of the hone.
