Garmin Airmar B258 - thru-hull transducer for depth and temperature sounder
The Airmar B258 transducer is a metal element permanently mounted in the boat's hull, acting as a sensor for the on-board fishfinder. It is made of bronze, so it withstands contact with salt water well and keeps its corrosion resistance for a long time.
Installation and use
It is a thru-hull transducer - it is mounted from inside the hull, without the need to drill a hole all the way through. The device has an Airmar 8-pin connector, so you can connect it to a Garmin fishfinder or a sonar module using the same plug standard.
Depth and temperature measurement
It is a full depth sounder transducer - it works at two frequencies, 50 and 200 kHz, which allows accurate measurement of the water depth both in shallow water and deeper under the hull. The built-in water temperature sensor continuously sends the reading to the fishfinder screen, which helps, for example, locate zones with a different temperature while fishing.
Who it is for
This transducer suits sailors and powerboaters who are expanding or replacing a sensor in an existing Garmin installation with an Airmar 8-pin connector, for example when replacing an older transducer with a new one or building their own vessel.
