Garmin GPSMAP 8410xsv – chartplotter with built-in sonar

The GPSMAP 8410xsv is a 10-inch chartplotter from the GPSMAP 8400 series that combines marine chart display and a full sonar module in one housing. It is a chartplotter with a fishfinder for motor, fishing and sailing boats where one screen has to handle navigation, the underwater picture and data from other onboard devices.

High-resolution screen

The 10-inch IPS display works at a resolution of 1920 x 1200 pixels, so charts, the sonar image and data pages are sharp and clearly visible even from an angle. The device is operated through a capacitive touchscreen – scrolling the chart and zooming work much like on a tablet.

Built-in fishfinder

The letters xsv in the name mean that the chartplotter has a built-in sonar module that supports three types of imaging:

• traditional CHIRP sonar – for observing the bottom and fish in the water column,
• ClearVü scanning – a detailed, almost photographic image of what is under the boat,
• SideVü side scanning – a view of the bottom structure and obstacles on both sides of the hull.

The transducer is not included in the set – it is chosen separately, according to the hull and the functions you want to use. The chartplotter also works with Panoptix sonars, including LiveScope.

Integration with the onboard system

The device can be connected to the Garmin Marine Network and to NMEA 2000 and NMEA 0183, to display data from radar, autopilot, wind sensors or an AIS receiver. Wireless connectivity lets you use the Garmin ActiveCaptain app on a smartphone or tablet. The chartplotter has a basemap, and detailed marine charts can be added from a memory card.
