Garmin GT8HW-IH - in-hull transducer

The GT8HW-IH is a fish finder transducer designed for bass boats, where it is mounted inside a fiberglass hull rather than on the transom, where the signal could be degraded by cavitation. Correct installation requires a flat area of the hull to which the transducer is glued.

Sonar and parameters

The transducer supports traditional High-Wide CHIRP technology in the frequency range of 150 to 240 kHz, with a rated power of 250 W. These parameters work well when running the boat at speed, when it is important to keep accurate depth readings under the hull despite the high speed.

Installation and use

Installation inside the hull, in a shoot-through mounting location, protects the transducer from the mechanical damage typical of elements mounted on the outside of the boat. The solution works especially well on fishing boats, where both the durability of the installation and a stable fish finder reading at various speeds matter.
