Garmin NMEA 2000 starter kit

The Garmin NMEA 2000 starter kit contains a complete set of elements needed to build a basic NMEA 2000 network on a boat, that is, the bus over which chartplotters, fishfinders, autopilots and other marine devices compliant with this standard communicate with each other.

What the kit contains

The kit includes a 2 meter drop cable, a 6 meter backbone cable, a 2 meter power cable and two T connectors with male and female terminator connectors closing the network at both ends.

What the NMEA 2000 network is for

The NMEA 2000 network allows navigation devices from different manufacturers to exchange data in real time, e.g. GPS position, sensor data or autopilot information, without the need to run separate wiring to each device individually.

Use

The starter kit is a good starting point for people who are just beginning to install Garmin marine electronics on their vessel. A ready backbone on the boat allows you to add further NMEA 2000 compatible devices in the future without rebuilding the whole installation.
