The unit.

The Bryton 530 resembles some Garmin units in shape and size. The housing is made of decent-quality plastic, but the monochrome screen feels delicate and flexes even under a light touch. A certain flaw, or rather an inconvenience when working with the display, is a considerable delay in operation at low temperatures. What matters most, however, is legibility, which is at least satisfactory. The unit is equipped with five navigation buttons, which after three months of use still work rather stiffly (in particular the up and down arrows), which is somewhat problematic during use. On the bottom there is a charging socket (standard micro USB port) and a socket for the mount. All in all the whole thing seems solid, except for the delicate display.

Synchronization.

We can synchronize the device using a cable, Bluetooth and WiFi, where using the cable gives access to the device memory and lets you upload files. Bluetooth is used for synchronization with the mobile app, and WiFi for synchronization without having to log in to the platform from a computer or phone, and for sending a route.

Battery.

The manufacturer declares thirty-three hours of operation with GPS running. Frankly, this result, if achieved, would be an absolute shock. In our test the Bryton 530 lasted even longer – nearly 35 h of continuous operation (static test with the unit placed outdoors). As if the battery were not enough, the unit can additionally be charged while riding.

GPS.

The Bryton 530 has two GPS track recording modes: MAX and ECO. Of course this does not rule out indoor training, which the included sensors help with. I won't hide that the unit's testing period fell in winter, so the unit did not work outdoors for long. Here are a few examples of GPS recordings.

Notifications.

The Bryton 530 allows notifications to be set only in sound mode. The volume level and frequency of the emitted signal are sufficient when riding without headphones and in typical road conditions you will not miss a notification, but even with very quiet music or in-ear headphones the sound is practically inaudible. In addition, with a longer signal it becomes irritating.

Operation.

The Bryton 530 is operated with five buttons. The ergonomics of operation are satisfactory, but people riding with a "short" stem will have problems using the "lower" buttons (with a longer stem – 100 mm – there will be no problems). Of course the solution is to use an external mount, which – considering that it comes in the set – is in any case a much better solution than a stem mount.
