Quill bicycle stem

A quill stem is a classic solution used on bikes with a threaded steerer tube (the older fork type, without the ahead system). Unlike ahead stems, a quill stem slides inside the fork tube and is expanded in it, rather than clamped to the outside wall of the steerer tube.

Construction

The model is made of aluminum alloy - lightweight but resistant to the typical loads of city and recreational riding. The stem shaft has a diameter of about 22.2 mm and is designed for handlebars with a diameter of 25.4 mm (the so-called 1-inch standard), common on older mountain bikes, city bikes and fixed-gear bikes. The quill length is 150 mm, and the effective reach of the stem is about 80 mm.

Installation

Installation consists of loosening the bolt at the top of the stem, sliding the shaft into the fork tube to the proper depth (the maximum insertion line must remain visible inside the tube) and tightening the bolt, which expands the wedge inside the steerer tube. Then the handlebar is fixed in the stem clamp.

Uses

The product works as a replacement for a worn or damaged stem on bikes with a threaded fork - city, trekking, older-type mountain bikes and single-speed bikes.
