Garmin Varia RCT716 – rear bike radar with camera
The Garmin Varia RCT716 is a device mounted under the bicycle saddle that combines a radar detecting vehicles approaching from behind, a camera recording the ride and a rear warning light. The bike radar alerts you to cars approaching from as far as 140 meters away, sending a warning to the screen of a Garmin Edge computer or to the Varia app on a smartphone.
Ride recording and incident detection
The camera records the route in 1080p at 30 frames per second and has a wide 220-degree field of view, so it captures most of the traffic behind the cyclist. When the built-in sensors detect a sudden jolt or impact, the device automatically saves the footage from before the event, during it and shortly after, which helps clarify the situation on the road.
Light and connectivity
The built-in rear light increases the bike's visibility in traffic, and all the electronics connect to the Varia app and Garmin Edge bike computers via Wi-Fi. In the app you can view saved videos, control the camera and track detected vehicles in real time. The battery lasts about 5 hours of 1080p recording.
