What it is for

GEB Valvex valve paste is a silicon carbide abrasive compound used for hand lapping of valves in combustion engines and for lapping the surfaces of other metal parts, such as taps and industrial valves. The black paste with fine 240 grit gives a smooth, tight contact surface between the valve head and the seat in the cylinder head.

How lapping with paste works

Lapping involves rubbing a small amount of paste between the valve and its seat, then making rotating movements in both directions (by hand or with a suction tool/drill with a suitable attachment) until an even, matte contact ring forms on the surfaces of both parts. The fine 240 grit is suitable for the finishing stage, after rough lapping with a coarser grit - this gives an exact valve seal and eliminates compression leaks.

Use

The paste is used in mechanical workshops for cylinder head overhauls, and also for repairing tap and industrial valves, where a precise, tight metal-to-metal contact surface is required. After lapping, wash any paste residue thoroughly from the surfaces so abrasive grains do not get inside the engine. The product is packed in a practical jar that makes dosing easy.
