The Motorola Talkabout T42 is a pair of PMR446 walkie-talkies designed for license-free communication, e.g. on family trips, field work or outdoor events. The devices operate on 16 channels in the 446 MHz band, and their range in open terrain reaches up to 4 km, in urban areas realistically about 1 km.

Features

The walkie-talkies offer a keypad lock, a confirmation beep when transmitting (roger beep), channel scanning and monitoring of traffic on the selected channel. This makes it easy to find a free channel and stay in contact with the group without accidental disconnection.

Power and housing

The devices are powered by AA batteries (4 per radio), and the housing has an IP21 protection rating, which allows use in light rain or damp surroundings. The transmit power is 0.5 W, which is standard for PMR446 radios operating without a radio license.

Application

The Motorola T42 walkie-talkies work well for camping, mountain hikes, farm work, organizing outdoor events or communication in large retail facilities and warehouses.
